The Oakfield Quarry is located 15 miles west of our main Eden Quarry. Oakfield material has also been referred to as “Fond du Lac” stone and is a high density limestone, quarried from less than 1 inch in thickness to over 2 feet. Colorings are typically pale gray, buff, and slightly golden. The Oakfield material is rich with depth and character, qualities that are most apparent in the weathered edge or exposed surfaces of the stone. Our signature Holey Boulders come from this property.
Our broadest color pallet of stone is found in Chilton. These quarries are located approximately 30 miles northeast of our main Eden Quarry. The Jefferson and Paradise quarries yield some of the most beautifully colored material in their region. Among the hues from here are: gray, blue, green, lavender, brown, yellow, buff, orange, and red.
The stratified weathered edge products available from these quarries have also been referred to as “Wisconsin Weathered Edge.” Chilton’s colorings and rich characteristics are continually in very high demand. The naturally occurring layers in Chilton are fairly regular, though it is not as smooth and is not available in larger size pieces as our Eden material.
Located in Marathon County, Wisconsin, our Stevens Point Quarries are home to our sandstone material. This warmly colored material is still some of the best sandstone on the market, and it is suitable for most stone building material applications. Its density, low absorption, and compressive strengths clearly illustrate its quality and performance characteristics.
This material is a bronze or chestnut color and is referred to as Chestnut, Empire, Winnebago, or Wisconsin Bronze.
Shades of brown, tan, and bronze are typical from this quarry. For projects utilizing Earth tones, this is one of our most popular stones. While the bedface remains smooth, the layering of this stone is not conducive to producing some of the larger cubic pieces typically used for copings, caps, steps, or sills.
